Real Good Craic

These works are about the cultural identity of binge drinking in Ireland. With the stereotype of being heavy drinkers, we as a nation tend to feel that it’s our sworn duty to live up to the claim. This may not be a problem for everyone, but it is a problem for some.

Ireland looses over 1000 a year to alcohol abuse, and contributes to 3 deaths a day.

These empty, hunched and crushed cans embody people who suffer from this. The works came to me during a period of my own life where I turned to over-excess in order to cope. The colour pallet is inspired by emulsion paint found at home during lockdown when people couldn’t just go to the art supply shop to buy new paints. I chose these colours as they were the most anatomical variant I could use.
